Swimming Pool Heaters are the most complicated piece of pool equipment. Making repairs to pool heaters should be performed by qualified personnel especially Gas pool heaters using Natural Gas or LP (Liquid Propane) gas can be hazardous by combustion.
Is the heater switched to on?
Is the thermostat set to a higher temperature than current water temp?Is the pump running with a clean filter and baskets?
Is the heater gas valve in the on position?
Is the heater pilot lit?
Is the gas supply valve open?
Are all plumbing and filter valves open?
If an external heater bypass is installed, is it properly adjusted?
Contact AIRTEAM HVAC if you still cannot locate the problem.
Every swimming pool heating system has its share of problems, and heat pumps are no exception: over the years, here at AIRTEAM HVAC we have helped many swimming pool owners solve their heat pump problems. If you notice that your heat pump is not heating your swimming pool, there are a few things we can do.
Check that your heat pump is getting sufficient water flow
Free your evaporator coil from all obstructions
Check the air temperature
Measure the air temperature difference
Check the PSI gauge. If it reads anywhere between 7 and 10, that means it is time for a new filter. New filter means warmer water.
If we have gone through all the previous steps for troubleshooting heat loss, the cause of the problem might be a dirty evaporator coil.
The evaporator coil is the part responsible for turning harvested warm air into usable heat for your pool. Each day, a bunch of air passes through the coil.
Over time, the coil begins builds up a layer of debris, dirt, and grease from processing so much air. An annual heat pump service takes care of this, cleaning the coil and any other related parts.
That said since your evaporator coil sits behind a layer of metal vents, the blockage could also be there.
If we see any leaves or twigs lodged in the vents, remove them. Any debris caught in the vents can impact air floor.
So the clearer the airway the better.
If your pool heater keeps turning off and on, check to see if the water flow light on the display is lit up. If your unit doesn’t have this light, we check all the error lights. Then we check
Your filter
Your filter pump’s basket
Your skimmer basket
Multiport valve positions
There might be a few cases when you can’t even get ANYTHING to show up on display board.
No “ON” lights, no water flow indicators. Nothing. Just a blank screen.
Fortunately, this doesn’t always mean that your pool heater is toast. Instead, what you’re dealing with is likely an electrical issue.
A malfunctioning pool heater can be a serious safety hazard. If you are unsure about any situation or procedure, contact an expert or call your manufacturer for assistance. Do not attempt to repair electrical or gas issues by yourself. Malfunctioning gas valves and faulty wiring are jobs for professionals. Turn off power to the heater and call a technician if you have determined that the problem lies in these areas. In addition, if you cannot get your heater to shut off, this may indicate a dangerous problem that should be handled by a professional.
